Meta’s Muse hits 5 million downloads in 22 days, outpacing ChatGPT
Meta's new AI agent app reached the milestone in under a month, beating the download pace of ChatGPT, Grok and Claude
Meta’s new AI agent app, Muse, crossed 5 million US downloads just 22 days after launch. ChatGPT took 56 days to reach the same mark.
From launch to 5 million in three weeks
Meta launched Muse on September 8, 2026. At first, it was available only in the US and Canada.
By September 30, the app had passed 5 million downloads in the US.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT needed 56 days to hit 5 million US downloads. xAI’s Grok took 103 days.
Anthropic’s Claude needed 492 days.
Muse also held the #1 spot among free apps on the US App Store for more than 12 consecutive days after launch.

What Muse actually does
The app is a personal AI agent built to carry out multi-step tasks across connected services. Its listed abilities include managing email, booking travel, shopping, filling out forms, browsing the web and organizing calendars.
Under the hood, Muse runs on Meta’s Muse Spark model, version 1.3. Tasks are carried out inside secure virtual environments, a sandboxed setup meant to keep the agent’s actions contained.
The app also ties closely into Meta’s existing ecosystem, which includes Facebook and Instagram.
The marketing muscle behind the numbers
Meta’s aggressive advertising accounted for nearly half of the app’s daily impressions.
A different approach to making money
The company plans to monetize Muse through small transaction fees on premium features, rather than a traditional subscription model.
