Meta’s Muse AI agent partners with Plaid to access 12,000 financial institutions

Meta’s new AI agent can now see your bank account.

The company’s personal AI assistant, Muse, has partnered with Plaid to connect users to more than 12,000 US financial institutions, giving the agent read-only access to account balances, transaction histories, and investment holdings. The integration was highlighted during Muse’s launch event on September 8, with Meta’s chief AI officer Alexandr Wang calling Plaid one of the critical initial connectors alongside services like Gmail and Spotify.

What Muse actually does with your money data

The Plaid connection is read-only, meaning the agent can look but not touch. Every action requires explicit user approval. Users can ask about their spending patterns, track progress toward savings goals, or get a snapshot of their investment portfolio without opening five different apps.

Muse is available on iOS, Android, the web, and WhatsApp. It’s restricted to US users aged 18 and older.

The pricing structure offers three tiers: a free option for basic interactions, a $20 per month plan, and a $100 per month premium tier.

Security architecture and user control

Meta built Muse to operate within a dedicated secure virtual machine, a design choice meant to keep user data compartmentalized and confidential.

Wang emphasized during the launch event that users choose which accounts to connect, can revoke access at any time, and must approve any action the agent proposes.

The bigger picture for Meta’s AI ambitions

By late September, Meta had already expanded Muse’s capabilities, opening a developer platform for additional connectors and forging retail partnerships for shopping and payment integrations. The Plaid connection remained unchanged through this expansion.
