Robinhood CEO predicts AI agents will soon match human traders

Vlad Tenev's vision for 'agentic finance' takes shape as Robinhood rolls out autonomous trading tools and an Ethereum Layer-2 network

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev believes AI agents will soon be capable of trading at the same level as humans.

Speaking to CNBC, he said the future of agentic AI is one where software can perform every task a human trader can, giving everyday investors access to advanced trading technology that has historically been reserved for institutional firms.

The company launched AI tools in May that enable agents to trade stocks and make purchases for users.

Tenev noted that much of institutional trading is already automated and AI-driven, but said Robinhood’s goal is to democratize those capabilities by putting sophisticated computational tools into the hands of retail investors.

Robinhood bets on AI and blockchain in largest product expansion yet

Robinhood on Wednesday unveiled its biggest global expansion to date at its “The World is Flat” event, introducing the Robinhood Chain public mainnet, tokenized stocks, new DeFi products, expanded derivatives trading, and AI-powered investing tools.

Built on Arbitrum, Robinhood Chain is designed for institutional-grade decentralized finance and launches with partners including Uniswap, Pleiades, Alchemy, BitGo, and Chainlink. The company also introduced Stock Tokens, giving eligible users in more than 120 countries access to tokenized stocks with 24/7 trading and DeFi functionality through the Robinhood Wallet.

Robinhood is expanding its crypto and DeFi offerings with Robinhood Earn, alongside perpetual futures trading through the Robinhood Wallet. In Europe, the company is broadening perpetual futures beyond crypto to include commodities, ETFs, and foreign exchange, while US crypto traders will gain new maker order types with fees as low as 0%.

The company also announced plans to launch crypto trading in the UK, officially entered Canada following its WonderFi acquisition, and secured a capital markets services license in Singapore.

On AI strategy, Robinhood announced Agentic Accounts for crypto, allowing AI assistants to monitor markets and execute trading strategies within customer-defined guardrails.
