Stablecoin deposits in DeFi hit $24B, up 560.8% in three years
Token Terminal data shows USDC holding the largest share as users park dollar-pegged tokens in lending protocols for yield
Stablecoin holders have found a new hobby: putting their digital dollars to work. According to data released by Token Terminal on October 25, 2026, total stablecoin deposits into decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols have reached $24 billion.
That figure is up 560.8% over the past three years.
The growth points to a clear shift in behavior. Users are no longer just holding stablecoins as a parking spot between trades. They are increasingly depositing them into DeFi protocols to earn yield.
USDC takes the biggest slice
Not all stablecoins are pulling equal weight. USDC leads the pack with a 38.2% share of DeFi deposits, which works out to around $9.2 billion.
Tether (USDT) comes in second with approximately $4.9 billion, or 20.3% of the total. That puts USDC’s DeFi deposits at nearly double those of USDT.
The third spot goes to USDe, a newer stablecoin that holds a 9.0% share at around $2.2 billion.
Taken together, those three assets account for roughly two-thirds of all stablecoin deposits in DeFi. Token Terminal’s dataset covers 193 digital assets in total, so the market is concentrated at the top but crowded below it.
A small slice of a much bigger pie
The $24 billion figure represents only about 8% of the entire stablecoin market, which is valued at approximately $298.4 billion.

Separate data from DeFiStar.io adds another angle. Stablecoin lending pools showed a total value locked (TVL) of approximately $25.68 billion within a recent 24-hour period.
There is a small wrinkle in the DeFiStar.io numbers. Net flows over the past month were slightly negative, with about $99.8 million in net withdrawals after accounting for interest.
Where the money is going
The deposits are concentrated in a set of well-known lending platforms. Major protocols holding these stablecoin deposits include Aave V3, Morpho, Sky Protocol, and Spark.
These platforms function roughly like an onchain savings and lending desk. Depositors supply stablecoins, borrowers take loans against collateral, and the interest paid by borrowers flows back to the people supplying the capital.
That doesn’t make it risk-free. Smart contract bugs, protocol failures, and stablecoin depegs are all real hazards in DeFi, and yield always comes from somewhere.
What this means for the stablecoin and DeFi market
A sixfold-plus increase in deposits over three years suggests users are treating these protocols as a legitimate place to earn returns on dollar-denominated holdings.
USDC’s 38.2% share of DeFi deposits signals that DeFi users show a clear preference for it when deploying capital into yield-generating protocols.
USDe capturing 9.0% of deposits shows the leaderboard is not locked.
With roughly 92% of the approximately $298.4 billion stablecoin market sitting outside DeFi deposits, the ceiling for growth remains high.
The recent net outflow of about $99.8 million is the counterweight to watch. It is small compared to the totals, but if outflows persist or grow, it could indicate that depositors are finding better opportunities elsewhere or growing more cautious about protocol risk.
