CoinGecko data as of Oct 28, 5:15 AM EDT.
Swedbank AB has raised its stake in Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ: MSTR) by 27%, bringing its holdings to 115,464 shares.
A position that keeps creeping upward
The latest increase builds on a stake that was already growing. Earlier 13F filings showed Swedbank buying 8,278 Strategy shares in the second quarter of 2026.
That purchase took the bank’s total to 90,590 shares. The position was valued at approximately $8.81 million as of July 2026.
Going further back, the stake sat at around 79,000 shares in late 2025. By May 2026, it had climbed to over 82,000 shares.
The position was valued near $20 million in late 2025.
Swedbank’s 2025 activity also included a stake of 60,195 shares, valued at about $17.35 million.
Now the count stands at 115,464 shares. For context on scale, Swedbank holds a $264 billion asset base.

Why a bank buys Strategy instead of Bitcoin
Strategy is best known for one thing: holding a very large pile of Bitcoin on its corporate balance sheet. The company, led by Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, reportedly holds between 600,000 and 800,000 BTC.
That makes its stock work as a leveraged equity proxy for Bitcoin. Put simply, buying MSTR shares gives investors a way to ride Bitcoin’s price swings without touching the coin itself.
For a traditional bank, that distinction matters a lot. Holding Bitcoin directly means dealing with custody, private keys and a regulatory picture that is still being sorted out.
Holding a Nasdaq-listed stock means none of that. It slots into existing systems the same way any other equity would.
The steady accumulation through its asset management operations suggests alignment with client-driven investments rather than speculative trading.
The Nordic angle
Swedbank is not the only Nordic institution moving in this direction. SEB Asset Management has also increased its MSTR holdings.
SEB reported a position of 53,837 shares, worth around $5 million in 2026.
The leverage element cuts both ways. When Bitcoin rallies, a proxy like MSTR can amplify gains, and when Bitcoin falls, the drawdown can be sharper.
That dynamic helps explain why Swedbank’s stake has carried such different dollar valuations at different points. The share count rose while the value attached to it moved with the market.
