About Theta Network
Theta Network is a decentralized blockchain platform designed for video and media streaming. Its infrastructure also supports AI and cloud computing workloads, delivered through a peer-to-peer network of edge nodes. Mitch Liu and Jieyi Long founded the project in 2017, with development led by Theta Labs. Liu is the CEO and Long is the CTO. The Theta mainnet launched with a dual-token economy: THETA, the governance and staking token, and TFUEL, the operational gas token used to pay for transactions and services on the network. Theta uses a proof-of-stake consensus model where Enterprise Validator Nodes propose blocks and Guardian Nodes finalize them. Participants stake THETA to run these nodes and secure the chain. THETA is used for staking as a Validator or Guardian node, participating in protocol governance, and earning TFUEL rewards. Users share bandwidth and computing resources through edge nodes and receive TFUEL in return for relaying streams or contributing capacity. THETA has a hard-capped total supply of one billion tokens, meaning no new THETA can ever be created. TFUEL launched at five billion tokens and follows an inflationary model with ongoing issuance through staking and uptime rewards. The network pairs a fixed-supply governance layer with a flexible operational token designed to incentivize decentralized media delivery.
