MetaMask debuts AI agent wallet with up to $10K in transaction protection coverage

The self-custodial wallet supports Ethereum, Linea, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BNB Chain, Sei, and Hyperliquid workflows.

MetaMask on Monday unveiled Agent Wallet, a self-custodial wallet built for AI agents that combines autonomous onchain execution with user-controlled guardrails, transaction security, and human oversight.

As AI agents increasingly participate in trading and DeFi workflows, MetaMask Agent Wallet is designed to give users the ability to automate onchain activity without surrendering control over assets or decision-making authority, as noted by the team.

The wallet provides agents with dedicated transaction accounts while enabling users to define spending limits, approved protocols, and operating policies before execution begins. Any transaction that exceeds those parameters or is flagged as potentially malicious requires human approval through 2FA before proceeding.

MetaMask Agent Wallet incorporates multiple layers of protection, including transaction simulation, Blockaid-powered threat detection, Smart Transactions MEV protection, and Transaction Protection coverage of up to $10,000 per month for eligible transactions. These protections are available across Ethereum, Linea, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BNB Chain, and Sei.

Built for crypto-native traders, developers, and automators, the wallet supports leading agent frameworks including OpenClaw, OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, Nous Research Hermes Agent, Cursor, and related environments.

According to MetaMask, users will maintain self-custody at all times, with full control over private keys and the ability to export their Secret Recovery Phrase whenever desired.

The launch introduces two operating modes. Guard Mode emphasizes oversight through policy enforcement and approval workflows, while Beast Mode offers a more streamlined experience for users seeking greater automation.

MetaMask Agent Wallet is available immediately through a limited Early Access Program, with mass public availability planned for later this summer.
